Fifth Concert of 61st (2019-2020) Season

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, we are postponing our April 20 concert and moving it to Monday, May 18 at 7:30 pm. This concert on May 18 will be a live streamed event. The Rocky River Chamber Music Society is committed to providing this concert of classical and jazz music to our loyal Northeast Ohio audience via streaming. Unlike all of our past concerts there will be no audience. Instead, you will be able to enjoy this concert at home in the comfort of a favorite armchair. Please keep checking Facebook, Twitter, and our website at www.rrcms.org for further information. If you have additional questions you can email us at info@rrcms.org .

Our streamed concert will feature saxophone virtuoso Steven Banks along with Afendi Yusuf, clarinet, and pianists Anthony and Christine Fuoco. They will perform works by Robert Schumann, David Maslanka, jazz selections to be announced, and a new work for baritone saxophone, clarinet, and piano.

As a jazz saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, Steven Banks has performed with many Jazz ensembles and has an ongoing relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra, having performed with the Orchestra at Severance Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Blossom Music Center. Besides classical orchestras and jazz groups, Banks also performs as baritone saxophone with the award-winning Kenari Quartet. He previously served on the faculty of Baldwin Wallace Conservatory and is currently on the faculty of Ithaca College as Assistant Professor of Saxophone.

Afendi Yusuf was appointed principal clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra in 2017. He joined the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2019. Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he has appeared as guest principal with several North American orchestras, and as guest musician under the batons of Gustavo Dudamel, Edo de Waart, and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Anthony Fuoco, lecturer in keyboard at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, teaches keyboard musicianship, jazz piano skills, jazz combos, and piano literature. He and his wife, Christine Fuoco, perform duo piano repertoire together. Christine has been a faculty member in the keyboard department at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory since 2001.

We look forward to the return of normal times. The Rocky River Chamber Music Society remains firmly committed to presenting concerts to Northeast Ohio audiences at no admission charge. All are welcome.
